Biogas Taita aims to contribute to a reduction of deforestation and CO2 emissions while providing sustainable and accessible solutions for the community thereby creating local employment, awareness and a more healthy living environment. Its robust and extensive quality control and user-training program ensures high quality delivery.
Biogas Taita Project is a social enterprise aiming to reduce our impact on the environment through the introduction of alternative energy and environmentally friendly waste management solutions. We strive to increase accessibility to applied technology for the people in Africa, build capacity and create 'green' employment and local economies.
Biogas Taita does not only offer the ‘hardware’ (the technology) but also understands and addresses the importance of the 'software' (the people), making the projects more successful and meaningful and putting the customer and community at the centre of each project.
How it works
Biogas Taita works in partnership with other organisations to develop projects which link water&sanitation, waste management solutions, biogas technology and community development, and is renowned for its innovative approach towards the application of renewable and alternative energy solutions for different contexts. Biogas Taita puts people at the centre of its development, focusing on community led solutions thereby ensuring long-term sustainability through community empowerment and ownership.

Biogas Taita has built over 350 biogas plants in the last four years and over 2000 people are now enjoying the benefits of biogas. It has created many job opportunities and has boosted the local construction-building sector. The project works all over Kenya and even Tanzania, to introduce, promote and install domestic and institutional biogas plants and has gained recognition and respect by its thorough and successful approach to implementing biogas, its high standard of quality control and customer follow-up and the construction of high quality plants. In line with our vision, Biogas Taita has now successfully developed the 100% Kenyan produced IRUWA solar water heating systems, which has been featured in the Afropolytecnic Journal, the Innovation Expo in Nairobi, The International Trade show in Mombasa and Nairobi and many more. Training for local entrepreneurs and installers started in August 2016.
The Biogas Taita Project is beeing run by a handful people who work hard for the project from day to day and is supported by at least twice as much who work on a voluntary basis. Furthermore we trained dozens of masons into Biogas Technicians who, in turn trained additional workers.
We are now in the process of training entrepreneurs, installers and producers for our new iruwa solar water heating system enterprise and also this project has been developed with the support and input and energy of many volunteers.
